Monitoring of groundworks was undertaken between 7 and 19 May 2008, on behalf of the Expo Events Ltd, to the west of the walled gardens, Ashtown Castle, Phoenix Park, Dublin in advance of the Bloom 2008 garden show organised by An Bord Bia. The site lies within the zone of archaeological constraint for the Phoenix Park, and is adjacent to a tower-house, a National Monument.
This work was carried out under an extension to the licence originally issued to Eoin Halpin and Stephen Doyle for testing within the walled garden undertaken during April and September 2005 (Excavations 2005, Nos 468–9).
No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were revealed during the monitoring of groundworks associated with Bloom 2008.
