Monitoring took place of groundworks associated with the proposed alterations and redevelopment of Mahaffy’s Public House, 1–2 Lombard Street, Dublin, between February 14 and March 25 2008. The site is located within the zone of archaeological potential associated with the historic city of Dublin.
No visible evidence of any features of an archaeological nature including building fabrics was identified within the property during the building survey and site inspection. The greatest depth reached during excavations was 0.6m below the previous basement level. The material uncovered was interpreted as 19th-century rubble backfill, supported by the presence of modern glass. No material of any archaeological significance was uncovered.
