Underwater assessment of the in-water route of a proposed stormwater outfall pipe was carried out along a route that runs north–south through the Grand Canal Docks for a distance of 448m, running between Grand Canal Tunnel and Hanover Quay. In addition, visual inspection at the location of the discharge outlet for the pipeline, located along Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, was undertaken.
Systematic visual inspection and magnetometer survey of the basin of the Grand Canal and attendant quayside was undertaken along a 448m (north–south) by 20m area. The riverbed and quayside at the proposed location of the discharge outlet was also undertaken, across a 10m (north–south) by 20m area. No archaeologically significant material was revealed within the immediate survey area at this location. The work was carried out on 26 February 2008.
