A building survey and test-trenching for a proposed residential development was carried out. The survey was conducted on 31 July 2008 with the groundworks being carried out over 11–12 June 2008. The proposed development is situated within the historic town of Dromore and contains within the site boundaries two listed IHR sites: Dromore railway station and bridge (IHR 02850:016:00) and the goods store (IHR 02850:031:00). At present the railway station building is being used as a children’s nursery and will not be impacted upon as part of the proposed development. The goods store will be demolished to allow development to proceed.
A photographic and descriptive building survey was carried out on the goods store, which consisted of a large rectangular building measuring 19m by 17m constructed from roughly hewn rubble stone coursing.
A total of four test-trenches sampling c. 280m2 were excavated within a targeted area of greenfield. No archaeological deposits were uncovered within any of the trenches.
