The current development proposal at Tully More, Milford, provides for the extension of the existing graveyard to the immediate south of the development area and the construction of an associated car parking area within the northern limit of the site. Test-trenching works were undertaken on 24 April 2008.
A series of nine 1.5m-wide machine-cut trenches were excavated within the area to be impacted upon by the proposed development with a primary trench (Trench 1) being orientated along the centre of the long axis of the proposed extension to the graveyard with 8 secondary trenches placed at right-angles across the primary trench at c. 10m intervals. In total, c. 347 linear metres of trenches were excavated.
Although the site lies within an archaeologically sensitive area, no archaeological artefacts, deposits or remains were identified during the test-trenching works. The topsoil and ploughsoil deposits directly overlay subsoil throughout the proposed development area.
