Two test-trenches were opened on the imprint of an apartment block at Elmwood Terrace, Main Street, Killybegs. Elmwood Terrace is located just to the west of the Killybegs town centre. The site is within the zone of archaeological potential for Killybegs town. An examination of the late 1830s first edition and the 1870s 25-inch series of OS maps indicated the site was a vacant plot for at least much of the 19th century. A derelict building in its north-east corner is of relatively modern construction.
No archaeological features or remains were uncovered in any of the test-trenches opened. The findings from the testing indicated the site was infilled with two layers of fill, which overlaid the natural deposition, in order to level off the site.
