The proposed development would involve the construction of 26 two-storey houses, connection to an existing public sewer, the carrying out of all associated siteworks and the demolition of a habitable dwelling at Kildrum Upper, Killea.
The excavation of nine test-trenches located throughout the proposed development area failed to reveal any archaeological features or artefacts. On all occasions topsoil directly sealed geologically deposited strata which varied slightly across the site. Occasional sherds of modern pottery were recovered from the surface of the field and the topsoil. In total 1,062m2 of test-trenches were excavated within the c. 17,150m2 site, giving an approximate 6.2% test-trenching sample of the proposed development area.
