The proposed development would involve the construction of 57 two-storey dwellings at Ballymacarthur, Greencastle. There would also be an extension to the existing service road and construction of a sewage treatment plant.
The excavation of sixteen test-trenches located throughout the proposed development area failed to reveal any archaeological features or artefacts. On all occasions topsoil directly sealed geologically deposited strata. Several modern stone drains were recorded throughout the proposed development area. In total 2,173.75m2 of test-trenches were excavated within the c. 47,500m2 site, giving an approximate 4.6% test-trenching sample of the proposed development area.
