Testing of a proposed development site was carried out as part of an impact assessment. The proposed development consisted of the construction of a dwelling house, driveway and associated services on a greenfield site which is located within the constraint zone for two recorded monuments (CO007–013/02, a ringfort, and CO007–013/01, a fulacht fiadh). Two trenches were excavated in the area of the proposed house and burnt-mound material was exposed in both after the removal of 0.3m of topsoil. The burnt spread measured c. 0.2m in height but its full extent was not exposed. No further excavation work was undertaken and the site was not subsequently developed.
