Pre-development testing of a proposed development site was carried out at South Terrace, Cork. The site lies close to the zone of archaeological potential for the historic city of Cork (CO074–122). This site is thought to be the location of a glassworks which operated in 1811–1844. Nine test-trenches were excavated across the site. Several post-medieval random rubble walls were uncovered. Two brick-built tanks were identified. These are likely to have had an industrial function. The stratigraphy on the site generally consisted of 1–1.6m of rubble overlying stony brown fill(s), which was used to raise ground levels in order to reclaim this marshy part of the city in the 18th century. This overlay the blackish-grey estuarine muds, which were exposed at depths between 1.6m and 2.7m. There was no evidence of a glassworks at this site.
