Excavation was carried out along the route of the East Cork Gas Pipeline on behalf of Bord Gáis Éireann. Monitoring of the topsoil-stripping along the pipeline route between March and April 2008 revealed two pits filled with burnt-mound material at Castlemary 2, Co. Cork. These features were subsequently resolved in April 2008. Radiocarbon analysis of the burnt-mound pits revealed that they dated to the Middle Bronze Age.
