Works were carried out along the route of the East Cork Gas Pipeline on behalf of Bord Gáis Éireann. An assessment of CO076–098/099 that took place in the townland of Bawnard East, Co. Cork, under licence 08E0090 revealed the presence of a burnt-mound spread. This spread was subsequently excavated in February 2008 under licence 08E0168. Radiocarbon analysis of the burnt-mound spread revealed that it dated to the Middle Bronze Age.
