An assessment was carried out before construction of a warehouse in a rough pasture field located adjacent to the former site of a 19th-century distillery (CO110–037). The site investigations comprised the excavation of trenches on the footprint of the proposed warehouse and a wading and metal detecting survey of a small stream flanking the south end of the development site. This watercourse is located outside the site boundary but was investigated to comply with the planning requirements. Test-trenching revealed frequent modern inclusions at the base of the topsoil layer and these included plastics and concrete blocks. It appeared that the ground levels in the development site had been extensively disturbed and it may have been used as a spoil retention area during recent construction works in the adjacent property. There were no archaeological features or finds uncovered during the stream survey or in any of the trenches excavated at this proposed development site.
