Works were carried out along the route of the East Cork Gas Pipeline on behalf of Bord Gáis Éireann. Monitoring of the topsoil-stripping along the pipeline route between March and April 2008 revealed a spread of burnt-mound material at Ardnabourkey 1, Co. Cork. This spread was subsequently resolved in May 2008. Radiocarbon analysis of the burnt-mound spread revealed that it dated to the Middle Bronze Age.
