Ministerial consent was granted for testing a proposed extension to the north-west sector of a graveyard at Sooreeny, Sixmilebridge. Illegal excavation works had been carried out in the field in 2005 and an assessment of this activity was compiled by TVAS Ireland Ltd; findings indicated that the area of the new burial-ground had been extensively excavated to a depth that would have entirely destroyed any archaeological material. In any event, test-trenches were excavated to see if archaeological features or contexts might exist along any sector or edge of the proposed development field, but nothing of interest turned up.
