The site is a greenfield site, currently used for grazing. It slopes gently to the east and south-east. To the west are a number of detached houses, while to the south-west and south is a large, recently completed, housing development. Due to the fact that the proposed development is sited in proximity to CL052–016, the zone of archaeological potential for Sixmilebridge, an assessment was carried out.
Nine trenches were excavated to natural. In general, no features or deposits of archaeological origin were recorded across the site. Testing has demonstrated that the site is low risk for potential archaeological activity outside of the village. The building illustrated on the 1840 OS map, which may have functioned as a ‘mass house’, is no longer extant and no evidence for it was recorded in Trench 1, which crossed its location.
