Pre-disturbance underwater and intertidal assessment took place of a 20m (east–west) by 200m area of riverbed and intertidal foreshore. As part of the proposed West Clare Water Supply Scheme it is proposed to insert a 450mm-diameter water pipe downstream of Blackweir Bridge, Doonbeg townland, Kilkee, Co. Clare.
Systematic visual inspection of both the riverbed and intertidal impact area was undertaken. In addition a metal-detection survey was carried out across the impact area associated with the proposed pipeline insertion. No archaeologically significant material, deposits, or structures were revealed within the survey area. The survey was carried out on 17 October 2008.
