Excavation was carried out between 11 and 15 March 2008 along the route of the proposed N3 Butlersbridge to Belturbet road improvement scheme for Cavan County Council and the National Roads Authority. The features identified were a drain or a ditch with a basal fill of stone, an elongated pit and a stake-hole of unknown date. The date of the ditch is probably in line with the post-medieval clay-pipe stem retrieved.
