Test-trenching was carried out on 22–26 September 2008 as part of pre-development works at the proposed site of North–South Ministerial Council Offices. A total of ten test-trenches were excavated, with each trench measuring 2m wide and to a depth of between 0.4–2m. Overall testing revealed no surviving substantial archaeological remains. Also little modern building activity at the site survives beyond the occurrence of basement activity which may relate to the telephone exchange that once occupied the site. The absence of modern building remains and the fact that the modern carpark construction deposits directly overlie subsoil throughout the development area suggests that large-scale clearance and ground reduction has already occurred at the site in more recent times.
