Trial testing was carried out in Abbey Street Carpark in August 2007, prior to the development of a multi-storey carpark. The site was located within the constraint area associated with Wicklow town, WI025–012. The construction of the carpark was within the constraint area of WI025–012(02), the Franciscan friary, known locally as the ‘Abbey’.
Trial testing revealed the site of a large garage and the concrete floor of the garage appeared to have disturbed the stratigraphy under the level of natural subsoil. The site was greatly disturbed by modern drains and service trenches. The testing revealed no deposits or artefacts of archaeological significance.
