Hand-dug test investigation of geophysical anomalies and one test-pit location identified on D’Arcy’s Field, Rathdown Upper, Greystones, Co. Wicklow, revealed no significant archaeological features or in situ artefacts. Twenty-four trenches were excavated to expose a sequence of anomalies whose archaeological merit was unclear. Each trench was positioned to intersect the anomaly and to extend 2m on either side of the anomaly. The nature of the anomalies has been clarified. No further archaeological requirement should be necessary in advance of construction works commencing.
Monitoring will be conducted for ground-disturbance works associated with this scheme, with the proviso for full excavation of any archaeologically significant material uncovered as part of the operation.
