Test excavation as part of a pre-planning assessment was carried out on 10 September 2007 at a 3-acre greenfield site in Polehore, Co. Wexford. This was deemed necessary due to the presence of a possible rectangular enclosure in the north-east corner of the site (WX037–013). Four trenches were dug across the site in a north–south direction. Subsoil was reached at a level of c. 0.3m, and some post-medieval blackware pottery was uncovered. A further four small trenches were excavated abutting the scarp of each side of the possible rectangular enclosure. Again subsoil was reached at c. 0.4m and one rim sherd of post-medieval orangeware was found. No trace of a possible ditch was unearthed. Test-trenching did not uncover any archaeological features on this site. As stated in the SMR file, the possible rectangular enclosure is more likely to be a later landscaped feature.
