Groundworks were monitored as part of the construction of a new three-storey commercial building at Nos 85–86 Main Street. The site is located close to the centre of the zone of archaeological potential for Gorey town. However, no archaeological remains or features were found pertaining to the 17th-century town. The site had been heavily disturbed by the presence of large buildings and associated basement with one of the structures. Elsewhere a cover of overburden directly overlaid the natural deposition.
