Groundworks were monitored as part of the construction of a new commercial building and basement at No. 22 Main Street, Gorey. The site is located close to the centre of the zone of archaeological potential for Gorey town. However, no archaeological remains or features were found pertaining to the 17th-century town. The site had been heavily disturbed by the presence of large buildings and associated basements which extended to depths of 2.2m below present ground level. These basements were built off the natural depositions.
