Test excavation as part of a pre-planning assessment was undertaken on 5–7 June 2007, at East Point, Clonard Little, Wexford. Although the 11-acre greenfield site was located well outside the zone of archaeological importance of Wexford town, testing was deemed necessary due to the presence of Alexandra House, an 18th-century building which abuts the north side of the site, and Clonard Castle, a possible medieval structure, which stands 1km south-west of the site. Test excavation involved the digging of twelve trenches, of varying direction and length due to the site comprising three separate fields. Subsoil was located at a level c. 0.4m throughout the site and trenching did not uncover any features of archaeological significance. Extensive ploughzone post-medieval pottery and three drains associated with Alexandra House indicated the area had been used for agricultural purposes from the 18th century onwards.
