An archaeological assessment was undertaken on the site of a former quarry adjacent to Mullingar town centre in July 2007. It was proposed to use the site to construct a small housing estate with associated road access and services installation. Test trenches excavated showed the area to be highly disturbed and with a high level of backfill from quarrying activities. A ringfort (WM019-071) was located to the west but no materials, features or deposits of an archaeological nature were discovered during the course of work.
