Recommendations to undertaken investigations and monitoring of groundworks were made in an archaeological assessment (Insight Archaeology 2006) compiled as a condition for further information in a planning application (Ref 05/2276). The proposed development comprised a mixed-use neighbourhood centre, apartments and car parking. The site lies close to WM007-010, the remains of a large ringfort. At the time designated for archaeological testing and monitoring a substantial amount of ground disturbance and soil removal works had already been undertaken. All areas designated for trenches had already had soil removed to subsoil level. The level of soil removal, ground disturbance and spoil heaps made it impossible to undertaken the proposed archaeological work. Upon consultation with the relevant bodies it was proposed to make a recommendation to preserve for investigation those areas not yet disturbed. No further archaeological work at the site was undertaken under this licence.
