A total of 2254m of test-trenches, comprising a centre-line trench measuring 1120m in total length and 46 off-set trenches measuring 1134m in total length, were excavated along the route of the proposed N52 re-alignment at Rathconnell. A total of 26 features were identified during testing. The majority of these were field drains of relatively modern date. The only exceptions were a derelict field boundary of unknown antiquity and a nearby kiln.
