Testing was undertaken in April 2007 in response to a request for further information in advance of planning permission for the construction of a mixed retail/housing development. The site is mostly comprised of the former An Post sorting office for Waterford.
Work revealed the presence of a number of post-medieval walls probably relating to an 18th/19th-century foundry and a brick-built building. Also revealed was a small area of cobbling, again likely to be 18th/19th-century in date. Some medieval deposits were revealed but are possibly related to post-medieval dumping on the site rather than actual in situ deposits. Further work on the site has been recommended.
