This site was excavated as part of the pre-construction archaeological mitigation of the N25 Waterford bypass, alternative route. The site consisted of six small pits (measuring on average 1m in diameter and 0.5m in depth) and were filled with a dark-brown/black silty clay containing occasional heat-fractured stone and charcoal. The pits were positioned around a circular deposit of naturally accumulated sediment with some inclusions of charcoal, most likely blown or washed in from the pits. The depression may have been a permanent or seasonal water spot that was eventually reclaimed. There were no finds, but environmental samples from selected features may provide a date for these features. Post-excavation analysis is still ongoing and radiocarbon dates were not available at the time of submission.
