The site for a proposed bungalow, close to a known ringfort (WA032–013), was assessed by trenching in June 2007. Two fire-spots with no associated post-holes, slots or ditches and no domestic or industrial debris were undated and probably not associated with the ringfort. A small patch of burning was associated with root holes or burrows, and a cluster of nebulous shallow hollows are likely to be natural features, perhaps tree falls.
Topsoiling the footprint of the house and approach exposed a small area of burning. The feature is similar to two others found during testing. No domestic, industrial, or funerary waste was found, no artefacts were recovered from fills or overlying topsoil, and all are considered likely features of land clearance, of unknown date.
