Trial-trenching was carried out in June 2006 on the line of the upgraded A4 between 25908 35510 and 25926 35514, under licence AE/06/105. Further investigations of three areas took place between September 2006 and May 2007, under licence AE/06/225. A group of burnt mounds was excavated in one area, centred on 26489 35705, and another burnt mound was partially exposed at 26475 35700, on the edges of an extensive area of peat deposits in the bottom of a small valley.
