Trial-trenching was carried out in June 2006 and April 2007 on the line of the upgraded A4 between 26652 35928 and 26685 35937. Two areas centred on 266600 359290 and 266710 359310 were stripped in August 2006 around possible features identified in the evaluation. On further investigation these features proved to be field boundaries and a cobbled surface of 19th/20th-century date.
