An underwater visual archaeological and metal-detector survey were conducted in the vicinity of the proposed development on Lough Derg at Old Court, Terryglass, in support of the planning application. No features or artefacts of archaeological significance were identified either along the coastal zone, within the area of proposed impact, or in the lakebed area adjacent to the proposed development. Very few metal-detector targets were identified, all of which proved to be modern debris.
The area in the vicinity of the proposed marina and fishing club has been subjected to dredging activity in the recent past in the area of the harbour entrance and along an adjacent quayside and exhibits evidence of the dredging in this area. Additionally, the construction of stone quays accompanied this dredging and harbour improvement. The remainder of the underwater site area is composed of non-archaeological stones and bedrock outcroppings leading down to a silt/sediment lakebed.
