Test excavation was carried out in November 2006 as part of a pre-planning assessment at the site of a proposed road alignment to the rear of Alza Ireland Ltd (Excavations 2006, No. 1908). The proposed development entailed the widening and slight realignment of the ‘Old Road’, which is believed to follow the alignment of the medieval trackway of Rian Bó Phádraig (St Patrick’s Cow’s Path). No archaeological features were identified during test excavation. The licence was extended in 2007 to facilitate monitoring of construction works. No features or finds were identified during monitoring.
