Four trenches were opened on the imprint of proposed farm buildings at Mortlestown townland. A well-preserved tower-house survives on the edge of the farmyard. No archaeological features or remains were uncovered in any of the test-trenches opened. Apart from plough furrows, two features were revealed during testing. The first consisted of a very modern drainage ditch. Revealed at the intersection of two of the trenches was a second earlier land drain.
