Test-trenching was carried out along the route of the proposed N7 Castletown–Nenagh road scheme in the spring of 2007. Testing of the eastern section, Archaeological Contract 2, extended from Castleroan townland in Co. Offaly, eastwards through North Tipperary, to Clonagooden in Co. Laois. The section was divided into eight testing areas, Areas 8–15, each tested under a separate licence.
Archaeological Area 12 ran from Chainage 26.600 to 29.200, through the townlands of Derrymore, The Sheehys, Timoney, and Tinderry, Co. Tipperary. Works were completed in mid-April 2007.
Three potential new sites were identified, as follows: The Sheehys (see No. 1728, Excavations 2007), a possible timber trackway; Timoney 1 (see No. 1730, Excavations 2007), a hearth, several pits and two potential fulacht fiadh troughs; Tinderry 1 (see No. 1732, Excavations 2007), a burnt mound c. 9m by 8m. Full excavation of all these sites was recommended.
