Underwater assessments were carried out at the site of a number of proposed drainage works which are components of the River Suir (Clonmel) drainage scheme. The work was undertaken on 30 May 2007.
Desktop analysis of the historical, archaeological and cartographic sources relating to the proposed development recorded that this island had been a market garden until the mid-19th century, after which time it was developed as an area of residential housing. The development proposed to impact on all sides of the island through the construction of a temporary piling platform. For the purpose of the report the development area was divided into four zones (1–4)
The assessment recorded that there were significant quantities of modern debris throughout all survey zones. These were most concentrated in the southern and eastern sides of the island (Zone 2 and 4). The survey did not record the presence of any visible archaeological features or deposits, although there remained the possibility that submerged cultural heritage may be present in the area.
