Archaeological investigation in advance of the N7 Nenagh to Limerick high-quality dual carriageway road project was carried out between 27 August and 29 October 2006. It revealed a roughly circular slot-trench habitation site, c. 8m (north–south) by 10m, with associated outer slot-trenches and some evidence of repair in one area. One sherd of prehistoric pottery was recovered from the interior of the structure. Approximately 15m to the south of the structure were an in situ stone-lined hearth and a scatter of up to 40 sherds of prehistoric pottery in the surrounding area. A figure-of-eight-shaped kiln was found in the north-east corner of the site, measuring 2.8m (north–south) by 1.3m, containing in situ burning and charcoal deposits.
Editor’s note: Although excavated during 2006, the report on this site arrived too late for inclusion in the bulletin of that year.
