Two test-trenches were mechanically excavated in advance of the construction of agricultural buildings and ancillary services on this site at Ballinamona, Golden, on 1 December 2007. The site is located within the zone of archaeological potential of Ballinamona Castle (site of), and immediately adjoining extant agricultural buildings on the landowner’s farmyard. The parallel test-trenches extended across the footprint of the proposed development and, other than the infilled remains of an effluent tank dating to c. 1970, nothing of significance was noted in either trench.
