Testing was undertaken in advance of the proposed extension to the rear of the Model Arts and Niland Gallery, Sligo. Eight test-trenches were excavated by mechanical excavator. Nothing of archaeological significance was identified in the test-trenches. The north–south-aligned 17th-century town ditch was potentially located in the near vicinity and as this feature was not found it is likely that the ditch was either completely truncated by later activity or survived to the east of the site. In addition, large areas of the proposed development site had already been clearly scarped during the construction of the two carparks and the creation of Connaughton Road.
