Testing was undertaken in the Ballydoogan townland in the Kevinsfort area, west of Sligo city, along the line of the proposed route of the new western distributor road. A series of test-trenches were excavated and the ditch of a rath was identified on the eastern edge of the area. The ditch was filled with a brown/grey stony clay and was not excavated. No other archaeological features were identified. Much of the test area, which is currently devoted to playing fields and amenity areas, appears to have suffered some disturbance in the past probably associated with landscaping and adjacent housing development construction activity.
