The proposed development at Carrigans Lower, Ballymote, would involve the construction of a single detached dwelling house with domestic garage, entrance driveway, effluent disposal system and associated site works on a site measuring c. 68m east–west by 55m. The excavation of eight test-trenches, spread throughout the proposed development area, failed to reveal any archaeological remains or artefacts. There was no evidence of any remains associated with the ringfort (SL033–018) located immediately east of the proposed development area, extending into the area of land-take.
