In August 2007 pre-development testing was undertaken at the site of a proposed retail development at Ballypheasan on the outskirts of Roscommon town. Testing was required as part of the overall assessment of the site. Three trenches excavated revealed no features of archaeological significance. The stratigraphy in all trenches was similar and consisted of a concrete surface overlying topsoil which overlay a sticky grey boulder clay.
