Twelve trenches were opened on the imprint of a holiday housing scheme at Muckanagh townland. A cluster of five ringforts survives within the vicinity of the development site.
No archaeological features or remains were uncovered in any of the test-trenches. Three features were exposed but proved to be of non-archaeological provenance. The features – land drains – appear to be part of land-improvement works in order to alleviate waterlogging/flooding. The site is located at 0–100m OD, close to the shore of Kilglass Lough, and retained several subsurface springs.
