Testing was carried out on the site of proposed construction works at Creagh, Athlone, Co. Roscommon, in November 2007. The construction works were proposed in order to facilitate an extraction area located outside the lands made available for the construction of the N6 Ballinasloe to Athlone road.
Fourteen test-trenches were opened through the site. One possible archaeological feature was identified on the site. This comprised a possible clearance cairn, which was summarily investigated and was deemed not to be of archaeological significance. All trenches recorded a uniform stratigraphy, none of which appeared to indicate the presence of archaeological features, deposits or materials on the subject site.
