Testing was carried out on the site of proposed construction works at Ardagawna, Athlone, Co. Roscommon, in November 2007. The construction works were proposed in order to facilitate an extraction area located outside the lands made available for the construction of the N6 Ballinasloe to Athlone road.
Four test-trenches were opened through the site. All trenches recorded a uniform stratigraphy, none of which appeared to indicate the presence of archaeological features, deposits or materials on the subject site.
