Assessment took place of a proposed residential housing development consisting of approximately 360 houses, encompassing six fields lying immediately south of the centre of Edenderry town.
A total of 37 test-trenches were excavated, spaced every 20m. Potential archaeological features were identified in Trench 11 in Field 3 and Trenches 14, 16, 18, 19 and 20 in Field 4. All of the features proved to be pits less than 2m in diameter but no datable material was recovered. Some of the features displayed evidence for in situ burning and were therefore tentatively interpreted as corn-drying kilns.
