This site was located within Contract 4 (Navan–Kells and Kells bypass) of the M3 Clonee to North of Kells motorway scheme and was identified during testing carried out by Shane Delaney (IAC Ltd) in 2004 (Excavations 2004, No. 1271, 04E0916). It was excavated between 11 December 2006 and 26 January 2007.
The prehistoric activity consisted of a number of tentatively identified prehistoric pits and post-holes which formed a possible structure. Prehistoric pottery was recovered from these post-holes.
A post-medieval farm structure was identified and this was associated with a number of drains and ditches which traversed the site. In addition to this a possible well was identified. It was stone-lined, 0.9m wide and 1.5m deep. The mouth of the ‘well’ was surrounded by four post-holes at each compass point which may have supported a structure over the well. Clay pipes, glass and modern ceramics were associated with these features.
