The platform was one of ten sites excavated in Kinnegad Bog, Co. Meath, as part of the 2007 Bord na Móna archaeological mitigation programme. A single cutting was excavated over two sites, originally identified as archaeological wood in situ (ME-KND012 and 013), to investigate their relationship. It was determined that these sites were part of a single roundwood and brushwood platform. A single cutting measuring 3m by 4m was excavated along the drain edge. The platform was composed of regularly laid roundwood and brushwood longitudinals that were orientated north-east/south-west. The site measured 2.4m in width, 4m in length and 0.34m in depth. The elements were closely laid and were up to four layers deep. A deposit of archaeological wood was recorded 0.4m below the platform and clearly pre-dates it. The deposit of wood measured 1m in width, 0.8m in length, 0.1m in depth and was composed of regularly laid heavy brushwood orientated east–west.
